Open Studio Weekend Countdown......6 weeks to go!

During the Easter Weekend 9 of Birregurra's practicing artists invite you to discover their studios, providing an intimate and privileged insight into their arts practice.

The Weekend provides a rare opportunity for visitors to chat with the artists in their studios and view works in progress, pieces that didn't quite make it, and, of course, successful end results. Also, where possible, they may witness the creation of a new work. You are invited to experience the people, space, making process and ideas that unfold within the private studios of artists in and around Birregurra.

The studios will be open Saturday, 19th and Sunday, the 20th of April, 10am - 4pm.
At 9 weeks out we started a countdown of a weekly artist spotlight, giving you a little taster about one of the talented artists each week.

The week 6 spotlight is on Chris West.
Chris describes her journey to becoming Birregurra's renowned textile artist this way.
‘Fifteen years ago I bucked the trend and moved from Queensland to Birregurra. A major, initial drawcard was the large studio with small house attached, but soon I came to realise Birregurra offered much more than that.
Over the years I have dabbled in many techniques and courses, all centred on textiles and fibres but latterly I have been content to share more informally with a group of friends as sought to extend our skills and interests.
It is the texture, colour and movement in textiles and fibre that provide the stimulation for experimentation and improvisation.
For the Open Studio weekend I shall be concentrating on revisiting passementerie skills learnt some years ago in the U.K.’
Passementerie - if this is for you, like it was for me, something you have never heard before, a visit to Chris's studio will soon enlighten you.
