WE'RE OPENING A POP-UP COMMUNITY GALLERY!

WE'RE OPENING A POP-UP COMMUNITY GALLERY in Birregurra

......and we're looking for artists to exhibit and sell their works.

BCAG Members and non members from the district are welcome.

With many thanks to the Birregurra Mechanics Hall committee, Birregurra Community Arts Group are opening our own community art & craft gallery which will tun over the next three months.

The gallery will be setting up between Christmas and New Years and hope to open on New Year’s Day if we have enough of your work to display!

We’re looking for all sorts of works, from paintings to sculptures and we will also have a small range handmade products made locally.

Non BCAG members are welcome to display their work as well, however there will be differing commission rates on sold works for members, non-members and a special rate for those volunteering as well.

The gallery will be staffed by ‘volunteers’ and the more volunteers we have, the more days we can be open to promote the talents of our members and other locals.

If you can spare 3 hours or more per month to volunteer on Fridays to Mondays, and/or have works, large or small to submit please express your interest to Monica via email:  mprovan@westnet.com.au

Grab your partner and head on Down - to Barwon Downs Hall that is!

There's heaps to look forward to in 2016!

Well, with 2015 nearing its end, we may as well take this opportunity to whet your appetite for what's in store next year!

The Arts Group Expo Wrap in words and images!

The Arts Expo @ the Masonic Lodge another festival success
It was only the second year that BCAG has taken over the abandoned Masonic Lodge to bring you a collection of arts demonstrations, sales, music and displays of what the arts groups has being doing and contributing throughout the past year. We had well over 500 people through the Lodge, all of who were gobsmacked that such a small town could be doing so much in the arts.
Well done to all those who contributed including all the artists and BCAG volunteers for making the Expo so warm, welcoming and interesting. Special thanks also to Birregurra Primary School and the very clever Ron Eichler for their fabulous contributions which made the entrance and walls of the old Masonic Lodge even more beautiful.
The Lodge wasn’t the only place you could see arts group members. At 10.30am Saturday, the Ukulele Kollective strutted their stuff on the street stage – blowing passers by with their high energy and fun songs. It’s amazing to see and hear how they have grown and progressed in just one year. The Birre Gospel Choir joined OMM on the main stage on Sunday and led the choir with Abby Hall on the Cup Song, and the very talented Claire Coulson blew everyone away with her rendition of Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire.
And finally, the Snapshots of Birregurra competition was another huge success with 59 stunning portrait entries. While winners have been announced, there is still a chance for one of our entries to win the Lenn Robb People’s Choice Award. Voting slips available at Birregurra General Store. All voters go into the running to win one of three $50 gift vouchers to participating retailers.
Thanks again to Birre Mail, Birregurra Historical Society and Birregurra General Store for their generous donations and support for the project. Next year’s theme is BIRREGURRA STRUCTURES AND BUILDINGS. Get snapping!!

65 minutes (no interval)
Box Office: 5232 2077
Adults $41 Concessions $36 Students $25

Based on his two best-selling books, Flak and Fly, well-known writer and performer Michael Veitch presents Flak – true stories from the men who flew in World War Two.

He takes on the roles of five former airmen, recounting their extraordinary, compelling and largely untold stories of combat.

We meet Australian bomber pilot Bruce Clifton whose Lancaster was shot down over neutral Norway, Englishman James
Coward who flew a Spitfire shot down by a German gunner in the Battle of Britain, a Welshman, and a former Nazi pilot. The stories are interwoven with insights from Michael Veitch’s lifelong obsession with air warfare and humorous anecdotes shared by the 50-plus pilots, air gunners and bomb aimers Veitch has interviewed. Join Michael Veitch for a post-show Q&A,
plus afternoon tea, after the 2:30pm show.

Proudly sponsored by Cape Otway Lightstation

There will also be a small display chronicling Cressy’s part in the air war in the COPACC foyer from 19 October to 20 November. We have memorabilia and photos on loan from Colac and Cressy history centres

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Spectacular works from art masters including Rembrandt, Rubens and Titian are going on show at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in the latest exhibition Masterpieces from the Hermitage: The Legacy of Catherine the Great.

http://treasuryoncollins.com.au/toc/wp-content/uploads/NGV-1200x480.png

Founded by Catherine the Great in 1764, the Hermitage is among the largest and oldest museums in the world and is regarded as having one of the world’s biggest and finest collections of paintings.
The works featured in the exhibition were personally collected by Catherine the Great during her 34-year reign – a period renowned as a Golden Age for the Russian empire.

The NGV has recreated the sweeping halls and rich furnishings of the acclaimed museum, transporting visitors into the world of the Hermitage.

For information on the exhibition, and associated programs for visitors of all ages, go to www.ngv.vic.gov.au
