Australia Day Celebrations!

Image
It is almost upon us and this year's Australia Day offers a plethora of activities to celebrate the day. Closest to Birregurra are the festivities planned at Tarndwarncoort and one  CLICK  will  show you all the Homestead has to offer on the day. Just a little further up the road, Colac is putting on an extravaganza of activity in the Botanic Gardens and the Birregurra Community Arts Group has been invited to contribute to this years celebration. We will be running our ever popular en plein air activity. This involves easels, materials and a still life to inspire. All are welcome to step up and find their creative self and hopefully leave with their own masterpiece. So, come along, join in, be part of the celebration and witness this year's Australia Day Awards presentation.

We Went And Looked at what's Afoot in Cororooke!

...and we weren't the only ones. Many came from far and nigh to celebrate the opening of the Working Studio of artists Carole Redlich, Christine West, Jane Bear and Kathleen Harkins  at the Old Bakery in Cororooke. This post will attempt to share the magic of this inspirational space. We were warmly welcomed by Carole who shared with us the history and concept behind the studio. This Working Studio is open to visitors every 4th Saturday of the month, from 10am-4pm and the artists invite other creative souls to come and work with them, in the studio, in the afternoon of the Open Saturdays. Personally, I can't think of a more creative space but I shall let the pictures tell the story. ....and let's not forget the original oven of The Old Bakery.

Tarndwarncoort is one of Victoria’s oldest surviving homesteads, and is the continuation of one of Australia’s oldest family farms.   Listen as Fiona Brandscheid and Tom Dennis chat with Jonathan from OCR's 912 program about the upcoming  event.Click the speaker image to listen to the interview. Community, Community, Community!

Sunday, the 11th of January will certainly be remembered as 'Community Sunday' by Birregurra residents of all ages. At the monthly Community Market, Birregurra's Community Arts Group put on a fabulous taster of the many varied activities available to community members through this group. Whilst a short walk up the hill, at the Christ Church, Teddy-Bear lovers of all ages were able to enter their furry friends in the Australian Parachuting Championship. The novel fundraiser, made possible with the help of the Birregurra CFA, brought out the inner child in many a patron and provided a magical experience for the children themselves. Great fun was had by all. If you would like to become more involved in the vibrant Birregurra Community, why not follow the links on this page to join the Birregurra Community Arts Group or go to www.birregurra.com for contact details for the Anglican Church Birregurra or the Birregurra CFA.
