Calling All Painters! Contemporary Impressionism Workshop with Peter Smales!
We are very exited to announce a Contemporary Impressionism Painting Workshop with well known Melbourne artist,
Cost: $130 students & members, $140 non members.
Where: Multi-purpose room, Birregurra Primary School.
Time: 10 am - 4 pm

This intimate workshop caters for a maximum of 12 people – beginners to
advanced, using Oils or Acrylic and a basic list of materials to bring
include
- Pencil and pad,
- 2 – 3 photographs of your choice,
- 16” x 12” (40x30cms) or 16” x 20” (40x50cms) canvas or board,
- General painting kit including colours:
- Warm & cool of the three primaries, ie:
- Yellows - Cad Yellow pale and Lemon yellow,
- Reds - Cad scarlet or red and Alizarin,
- Blues - Ultramarine blue and Windsor or Prussian blue,
- Titanium White
The workshop begins with a demonstration painting for about an hour – discussing basic painting process – composition / balance / colour mixing made easy with a limited palette of 6 colours. Students are encouraged to either copy Peter painting or work on a picture based on their own photographs.
The afternoon will feature another demonstration of a still life from life.
The Arts Group will be able to supply a number of easels but you are encouraged to bring your own.
Should you not already own your own basic painting kit, here is a list of items that you might find in such a kit.
BASIC MATERIALS - SUGGESTED LIST
- Paint tubes of the colours mentioned above,
- Medium Refined Linseed Oil
- Solvent Mineral Turpentine
- Brushes Hoghair, round (e.g. Pro Arte or Holbein are good) Nos. 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 12
- Optional:Hoghair, Eterna Series 577 (chisel) Nos. 5, 7, 10, 14
- Paint Rag Pure cotton flannel works well
- Dipper Clips onto Palette securely
- Palette 41 x 30 cm wooden (minimum size)
- Palette knife
- Supports Minimum size: 40 x 30 cms (16 x 12”)
- Primed paintboards (as supplied by art shops) or craft board /
- mdf panels (primed with either Gesso or undercoat)
- Cotton or linen on panels or on stretcher frames.
