A few words from our first 2016 Art outing by Judy Goddard!

What an enlightening day. After a relaxing train ride to Melb. with Jane Dennis, Susie Coulson, Anna Hoederman and myself, we started with our obligatory caffeine at our favourite French Chocolatier shop, and then on to the NGV. The 2 Superstars of Contemporary Art, Andy Warhol and Ai Wei Wei, expressed their feelings and beliefs through thought provoking images and sculptural installations. We all agreed, A MUST SEE! . We then made our way over to the Botanical Gardens for lunch at Jardin Tan, where we were spoiled with Shannon Bennet's artistry in food. Delicious Vietnamese/Asian fusion food. One more stop took us to the Shrine, here a war artist Fred Ransome Smith was exhibiting a collection of his work in pencil and water colour, depicting his time as a POW over 3 years. It gave us the time for deep reflection on the horrors of war. (this exhibition has now closed) For those who want to visit The NGV, the exhibition is on till 24th. April. Definitely worth the  exp

CUT: A Special International Woman's Day exhibition!

If you simply can't get enough of 'The Dress Maker', this exhibition might just be the thing for you. Held at the Ballarat Backspace gallery, this collaborative 'Garments without Patterns' exhibition, featuring 28 textile artists, including Birregurra Arts Group member, Jane Bear and An opportunity to meet Dorothy Nicol and participate in a discussion led by Dr. Juliette Peers, exploring women's social history & feminine art. Fabulous Felting Workshop For Beginners!

Make a unique felted scarf, using  Tarrndwarncoort's hand-dyed Polwarth wool and silk fibres . Your instructor Pam Fyfe is a textile artist with 12 years experience in the inspiring craft of felting.  Venue:   Birregurra School Date:  Saturday 9 th  April 2016 Time:  9:45 for a 10am start. Approximate finish time  3:30 -  4pm Cost for the day  $85 for members, $95 for non-menbers and includes the following: A beginners felting kit  ($25)  containing: 100g of Polwarth wool tops ( choice of  white  and/ or coloured) 2.5m x75cm bubble wrap ½ pool noodle  for rolling 2m   x 45cm tulle Plastic sheeting and a ccess to small amounts of coloured wool and silk fibre for embellishing. Things to bring to workshop: A spray bottle or a  strong plastic container  (  eg  milk bottle) with s mall holes drilled in the lid  A plastic bucket .   3 old towels .   A plastic shopping bag .
