Birregurra's Small Town Transformation gets the green light!

On Saturday 28th May,  Birregurra began celebrating the news that the community successfully secured $350k in funding to creatively transform the town through art as part of Small Town Transformations, a Victorian State initiative administered by Regional Arts Victoria.

The two year long project, titled "enLIGHTen Me: I have a Hall in my Heart" will see significant climatic and technological upgrades to the much loved but all too frequently idle Mechanics Institute, otherwise known as Birregurra Hall.

The ultimate goal is to inspire the community to champion its potential and creative possibilities—transforming it from a much underused facility into a sustainable and inventive cultural centre with an ongoing program of community activities and events.

There will also be some physical changes to the hall—subtle but very functional. A key element to the physical works to the hall will be connecting the interior of the hall with the outdoor space on the western side of the hall…

90 Stitches - Queen's Birthday Weekend Exhibition!

Textile artist Jo Maxwell loves nothing more than the challenge of
transforming an idea or a basic sketch into a 3D creation to adorn the
homes of local and international clients.

Don’t miss the chance to catch up with Jo at her forthcoming textile
exhibition ‘90 Stitches’ in Apollo Bay over the long weekend in June.

While much of her inspiration comes from her quirky way of seeing the
world and, in particular, the people in her life, Jo also turns to the past to
find something new. Her fresh approach to traditional embroidery
embraces techniques from a range of accumulated skills over a long
career in design, dressmaking and more recently in creative surface

Jo, who has lived much of her life in country Victoria, brings her love of
nature and natural fibres to her creative work.

“I love working with natural products – cotton, silk, timber and I
particularly enjoy creating pieces with linen. I like to collect, recycle and
renew materials and transf…
