Local Artists Finalists in the 2016 Acquisitive $7500 Corangamarah ART PRIZE - con.ceit’16

Red Rock Regional Theatre and Gallery are pleased to announce finalists for the Corangamarah Art Prize have been chosen.  It is most pleasing and exciting that a number of local artists in the Colac Otway Shire  have been selected this year and will be showing their work as part of the Corangamarah Art Prize conc.ceit ’16 exhibition throughout August. 

 26 artists out of 64 entries from all over Victoria and Australia have been selected as finalists by an external selection panel including Director of Geelong Art Gallery Jason Smith and well respected visual artist and educator Godwin Bradbeer.

The opening will be held in the evening on Saturday 6th August with announcement of prize winners by Jason Smith, Director of Geelong Art Gallery.

The $7,500 acquisitive Corangamarah Art Prize has become a mainstay in the calendar of Australian artists. RRRTAG is honoured to host this prestigious event with the winning artwork, announced at the opening, to be added to the Corangamarah Art Prize Collection at Colac Area Health.

WHAT is the Corangamarah Art Prize?  Inaugurated in 2006, the annual Acquisitive Corangamarah Art Prize was conceived to provide the newly built Corangamarah Aged Care Facility in Colac with colour and life.  The notion of the award winning collection was to encourage discussion by residents, family and all in the local community and beyond.  It brings a sense of pride.

Artists from all over Australia and of course locally are invited to submit an artwork inspired by a contemporary issue or event, demonstrated through the Prize theme con.ceit’16 a concept which is conceived, imagined or formed in the mind, an idea, thought, image, a personal opinion.

Two further (non-acquisitive) prizes will also be awarded:
con.ceit’16 Small Works Art Prize of artworks less than 50x50cm (framed) and a People's Choice

WHO:  26 Finalists selected from 64 entries. A range of both emerging and established artists from around Australia selected to exhibit their 2D work.

Judge of Final selected works for the Acquisitive Art Prize and the small works prize is Jason Smith Director of the Geelong Art Gallery an internationally recognised art museum director and exhibitions and collection curator.
